Every Wednesday night, Mike ORoark and friends hosted the longest running open mic in Kansas City. In his honor, his buddies have vowed to continue the tradition he started 23 years ago at Papa Frank's in Parkville, MO. You will hear country, old rock, bluegrass and more from new and seasoned entertainers.
Roger Brough plays the first set from 8-9 PM and then it's open to the house. EVERYONE gets their chance on stage. There are a number of regular musicians generally available to play for anyone that needs or wants instrumental back up.
On Wednesdays, you can get a steak with baked potato and salad for under ten dollars!
Don't let the strip mall exterior fool you. Dirk's comes with a good dose of neighborhood friendliness and there are plenty of amenities to keep you coming back. The great food is one. Try the steak sandwich or sink your teeth into a juicy burger. Dirk's offers a relaxed atmosphere with congenial service and a no-frills attitude.
You don't have to be decked in Chiefs red or Royals blue to be welcomed. This is a neighborhood establishment but Dirk's proximity to the airport provides plenty of exposure to visitors. The blend of out-of-towners and homers makes for an interesting atmosphere. You will only be a stranger once! After all, it's been happening once a week for over 21 years!!!
